Common Questions About General Medicine in Qatar

Got questions? We've got answers. If you can't find what you need, just send us a WhatsApp message.

What does a General Practitioner (GP) treat?
A GP is trained to assess, diagnose and manage a wide range of health concerns across all age groups and body systems. This includes acute illnesses like infections and fever, chronic conditions like diabetes and hypertension, preventive health check-ups, vaccinations and mental health first contact. If your condition requires a specialist, your GP will coordinate the right referral within Wellkins' 14 departments.
What is the difference between a GP and an Internal Medicine doctor?
Both can manage adult health conditions, but they differ in scope and depth. A GP is your first point of contact for a broad range of health issues. They assess, treat common conditions and refer when needed. An Internal Medicine doctor has additional specialist training focused on diagnosing and managing complex, multi-system diseases in adults. At Wellkins, both departments work closely together to deliver seamless, coordinated care.
Can I see a GP without a referral at WELLKINS?
Absolutely. No referral is needed to see a GP at Wellkins. You can book directly online through our Visit page or contact us via WhatsApp. Walk-ins are also welcome subject to availability. We recommend booking in advance to secure your preferred time slot.
Can a GP manage my diabetes and blood pressure long-term?
Yes. Our GPs are well-equipped to manage common chronic conditions like type 2 diabetes, hypertension and high cholesterol on an ongoing basis. This includes regular monitoring, medication review, lifestyle guidance and lab tracking. For more complex cases, your GP will coordinate care with our Internal Medicine specialists to ensure you get the right level of support.
How often should I have a general health check-up?
Adults are advised to undergo routine health screening annually, especially if they have risk factors such as family history or lifestyle-related conditions. Our GPs can guide you on the right screening frequency based on your age, health profile and medical history.
Is teleconsultation available with a GP at WELLKINS?
Yes. GP teleconsultations are available through our Telehealth service for appropriate cases including follow-ups, medication reviews, lab result discussions and non-emergency health concerns. Some conditions will still require an in-person visit. You can explore our telehealth options or contact us via WhatsApp to confirm availability.
